I am a freelance writer and historian, having previously studied and taught history at the University of St Andrews. My research at St Andrews has led to several publications, including a contribution to Medieval Sexuality: A Casebook (Routledge, 2008).
I have recently completed a military biography of King Edward IV of England, Edward IV and the Wars of the Roses, which is due to be published by Pen and Sword in January 2010. Edward is a fascinating character. His personal motto was ‘comfort and joy’, yet it was during warfare that his qualities became most evident. Edward was a born leader of men, emerging victorious from some of the bloodiest battles ever fought on British soil. My book provides a readable narrative account of the Wars of the Roses, with an emphasis on Edward’s personal role.
Though I am primarily a Medieval historian, I have a wide range of interests. I have developed a growing interest in Ancient History, for example, and review books at www.heritage-key.com. I also enjoy exploring the rich history and heritage of my current home city, Edinburgh.
I am an active member of numerous historical organizations, including the Royal Historical Society. I have worked particularly closely with the Richard III Foundation, Inc., on whose behalf I administer a small postgraduate scholarship.
History Times is an exciting project and I am delighted to be a member of the community here. I am looking forward to sharing my ideas and welcome feedback on my work.
