Hi everyone.

Pete Jessup - History Times writerYou may have already read a little about me from my profile over at the About Us page for History Times so I’ll keep this brief.

I come to History not from any great academic angle but purely from the love of a great story. On reflection it has captivated me from my early childhood, having parents that lived through the Second World War and a grandfather that served in the First, I Consequently grew up with stories and perspectives of a very different Britain to the one we live in today.

The world of history came together with my love of literature when as a child I sarted reading some old W E Johns “Biggles” books and I have remained captivated by both ever since.

For me the essence of a great history book is the ability of the author to literally take the reader back to a distant time and space when the outcome of some of History’s most momentous events still hung in the balance.

In my opinion, if we cannot understand and learn from the mistakes of the past how can we ever hope not to repeat them in the future?

The scope of my personal historical interests are pretty broad but enjoy and I am well read on both World Wars and key events in the twentieth century, the Medieval period and a little on Ancient Rome - but as I have said earlier I love a good story whatever the period!

I hope you enjoy my articles!

Regards Pete
