It seems that despite the global appetite for conflict since 9/11 the worlds’ enduring fascination with the War in Vietnam continues to prove a vocal debating point and gives voice to a number of very current geopolitical questions. For example - is communism dead, has the nature of warfare fundamentally changed, and is Islam the new communism?

The American War in Vietnam effectively came to a close in spring 1975 when Henry Ford ordered an helicopter airlift evacuation code-named ‘Operation Frequent Wind’ to rescue Americans and select South Vietnamese from Saigon and bring them to the USA.

There is honour among soldiers the world over. It may seem paradoxical but this often extends across national boundaries to even one’s own bitterest enemies. Even between the most hostile of opponents in battle, grudging admiration to outright respect for the fighting prowess or cunning military resourcefulness of one’s opponent can often arise (think Monty and Rommel in WW2).
