In our day to day lives, we pay scant regard to what's actually under our feet, buried beneath our cities' streets. 'Cities of the Underworld' from the History Channel takes you to the places that the public often aren't permitted access; to see the bunkers, caves and remnants of Ancient civilisations that are buried beneath the modern world. From the dark, dank prison cells of Vlad the Impaler's Rumanian castles, and the immaculately preserved Ancient Neapolitain streets through to the tunnels under Paris created by Ancient limestone mines, now filled with the skeletons of over 6 million Parisians, 'Cities of the Underworld' provides a direct insight into the world of the past that still exists; in many cases propping up our modern day cities. Indeed, the very bunkers we visited in Berlin (see 'Going Underground In Berlin') make an appearance!

In recent years, religious fanaticism and terrorism has rarely been away from the news headlines. But whilst the methods have changed, the underlying reasons remain the same almost 1000 years after the Catholic Church effectively decided that it was absolutely fine to run rampage across the Middle East, slaughtering at will, provided you were doing it God's name. Naturally, the Muslim people inhabiting those lands weren't necessarily appreciative of these religious thugs' behaviour, so they fought back. Which, under the circumstances was a perfectly reasonable reaction!

Now available on DVD Valkyrie is a World War II suspense thriller staring Tom Cruise and Kenneth Branagh.

At the height of the war, a group of high-ranking German officers, including Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise), Major-General Henning von Tresckow (Branagh) and General Friedrich Olbricht (Bill Nighy), hatched a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler (David Bamber) and seize power of the military command in order to end the war and make peace with Allied forces. The operation, codenamed 'Valkyrie', was modified by the conspirators to ensure its success, but for various reasons the plot failed when finally carried out on 20 July 1944, and the conspirators of the inner circle were summarily executed following a kangaroo trial. Cert 12

Valkyrie is based on a true story that unlike some Hollywood films plays some respect to the facts. Have to say Valkyrie is an enjoyable film mostly well acted and with excellent cinematography only let down for me with a slightly ponderous plot and the fact that all the German soliders had excellent plummy english accents! But for it is worth investing the time in so a 3/5 from me.

Available for now for only £15.99 (RRP £19.99)
